China - Mu Xia - Washed

After a recent visit to Path Melbourne, I was mind-blown.

Personally, I don't prefer heavily fermented coffees, and my only experience with Chinese coffees had been at Calere.

Don't get me wrong, they are good and many love them; it's just not my preference.

Since then, I haven't touched Chinese coffees, but I was curious to try this espresso as it was a washed coffee (which is rare out of Yunnan).

I would have never guessed it was from China.

It was super balanced, with lots of texture. It had hints of lemon tea and honey, but generally lots of stone fruits and florals like orange blossom.

If I had it blind, I would have guessed it was a coffee from Africa.

Path roasts only for filter, but it works great for espresso.

At their brew bar, this coffee was extracted at 17.5g in and 48g out in 22 seconds. It’s short, sharp, punchy, and it brings out so many floral notes.

It's quite rare to see a washed Chinese coffee like this, so I hope you take the chance to try it before it runs out.

Baoshan is in South Western Yunnan located between the border of Myanmar and the Lancang river, the upper section of the Mekong.

This specific coffee is named Mu Xia, meaning Late Summer and is processed using a classic washed method. This is one of our favourite varietals and our first washed coffee from the region and we couldn’t be more excited!
